Over the past 30 years we have seen many burst pipes in winter. Many people ask us how to stop their pipes from freezing when there is cold weather. The first thing to remember is that any plumbing lines that are on outside walls are subject to the cold and could cause a burst pipe if the temperature is below freezing. It is suggested that you use pipe insulation on those pipes to help stop them from freezing during these cold winter months. For an outdoor spigot or hose bib you want to be sure you drain your hoses and disconnect them. Then you want to be sure to drain the water from the spigot and turn off the spigot completely. Be sure to turn off the shut off valve as well. While this does not guarantee your pipes will not burst, it certainly helps during these cold temperatures. Call us if you need help and we will guide you through the process or set up and appointment for our technicians to come out. 410-997-8414
