Water Heater – Repair Or Replace?

You may be thinking my current water heater is 20 years old and it’s just fine.  Why are you telling me to replace the water heater at only 10-12 years old. Well the reason we recommend this is because you could potentially avoid any leaks and breakdowns by replacing it with a newer model.  Also, the newer models offer increased energy efficiency and the potential to lower your utility bills while your at it.  Your older water heater could be showing signs of age with rust and sediment build up that you cannot see. These things can affect the plumbing in your home. Minerals can dissolve over time in your tank causing build up, corrosion and these things can eat away at the glass lining and the steel tank causing plumbing emergencies.

Some people want to ride it out and wait for the unit to fail.  If that’s what you choose; we understand the replacement cost of a water heater can be expensive but keep in mind the damage from a failed water heater can cause more damage to your home that you would like.  The other thing is if your in a hurry to replace your water heater because it’s leaking and/or you have no hot water there is no time to plan a possible upgrade to your system.  Maybe you want a tankless heater or a hybrid/heat pump system in the future.  Those things take time to plan as well as additional work such as electrical upgrades or gas upgrades.  They are difficult to accomplish when your in a hurry due to no hot water and/or a leaking heater in your home.
